Entrinsik’s Informer AI Platform at the Core of Cal Lutheran’s National Award for Student Impact

Tambellini Group Awards Cal Lutheran the 2025 Future Campus Award for AI-Driven Student Success

RALEIGH, N.C., August 6, 2025 – California Lutheran University (CLU) has been selected as the winner of the 2025 Tambellini Group Future Campus Award in the “Impact on Learning Outcomes and Experience” category. The national award honors CLU’s university-wide deployment of AI Assistants that are powered by Entrinsik’s Informer platform as part of their broader effort to create more agile, personalized, and effective learning environments.

Selected from a competitive pool of higher education institutions, CLU’s innovative use of AI stood out for its sustainable design, measurable results, and commitment to long-term student success. The initiative was launched in strategic partnership with Entrinsik, using Informer’s AI Assistants to embed secure, governed AI directly into CLU’s campus portal and mobile app.

“California Lutheran’s bold vision and leadership exemplify how higher education can responsibly implement AI to improve outcomes at scale,” said Brad Leupen, CEO of Entrinsik. “Their innovative approach, powered by our Informer AI Assistants, sets a new standard for intuitive, governed, and impactful AI that supports student success today while building a foundation for long‑term impact.”

Informer AI Assistants integrate with CLU’s existing systems, including their enterprise resource planning system, student information system, and learning management system, and are deployed through the university’s MyCLU Digital Experience Platform. This infrastructure empowers students, faculty, and staff with real-time, personalized insights and support across academic, operational, and administrative functions.

Early implementations include 1-to-1 AI Tutors that guide students using Socratic methods, encouraging deeper engagement. AI Instructor Assistants also support faculty by analyzing AI Tutor conversations and institutional data to recommend strategies for framing content based on student interests and learning needs; enhancing instruction and building long-term institutional capacity.

“We realized AI could enable Cal Lutheran to provide an unprecedented, unparalleled level of service and support which would directly impact student success,” said Justin Barkhuff, director of enterprise applications at California Lutheran University. “We are so thankful for Entrinsik’s ongoing support to help us realize that vision, and it’s an honor to be recognized by Tambellini for that work.”

Initial results highlight the impact of CLU’s AI-powered transformation:

  • A 96% satisfaction rating for MyCLU in campus-wide surveys
  • 70% reduction in Financial Aid follow-up issues at orientation
  • 75% decrease in unpaid graduation fees after launching a digital checklist

The Tambellini Group recognized CLU’s initiative for not only improving student experience and outcomes today but for laying a sustainable foundation for the future. The model offers a scalable blueprint for institutions seeking to unify fragmented systems, reduce operational strain, and enhance learning through ethical AI.

“This project is about more than introducing new technology. It is about removing barriers for our students and faculty so they can focus on learning, teaching, and collaboration,” said Zareh Marselian, CIO at California Lutheran University. “By integrating Informer AI Assistants into our Digital Experience Platform, we are creating a consistent, personalized experience that helps every member of our campus community get what they need, when they need it. This recognition from Tambellini reflects the progress we have made and our commitment to continuing that work.”

Coming Soon: Informer 2025.2 – Performance, Productivity, and AI-Powered Insight

At Entrinsik, we’re always listening. Every release is driven by customer feedback, hands-on testing, and a deep commitment to making Informer the most intuitive, powerful, and secure platform for data exploration. With Informer 2025.2, we’re delivering foundational upgrades and time-saving features that elevate everyday workflows and pave the way for even smarter, more scalable innovation.

Here’s a preview of what’s coming.

Modernized Server Architecture for Peak Performance

Our 2025.2 release brings a major behind-the-scenes upgrade: Informer’s core server architecture has been modernized using Node.js, Hapi, and Highcharts. The result? Faster performance across the board.

Whether you're navigating Dashboards, querying Datasets, or interacting with AI Assistants, Informer now responds faster and scales more efficiently under load. This modernization not only enhances your current experience; it also lays the groundwork for our next generation of enterprise-scale capabilities.

AI + File Integrations: Smarter Access to Your Data

We’ve expanded Informer Libraries to support Google Drive, alongside existing integrations like OneDrive, Box, and GitHub. Now, Users can sync entire folders from Google Drive, making their contents instantly searchable, reportable, and available to Informer.

This means you can ask an AI Assistant to summarize, analyze, or compare documents stored in your Drive, unlocking intelligence from files that were once siloed or difficult to manage.

For teams working across systems, this creates a single pane of glass for accessing operational content and driving decisions faster.

Job Action Uploads to Drive – Automate, Centralize, Simplify

Informer has long supported automated Jobs that refresh Datasets and send exports via email or SFTP. With 2025.2, you can now configure Jobs to upload directly to Google Drive or OneDrive, including through Informer Libraries.

It’s a small change with big impact, freeing teams from repetitive tasks, improving transparency, and ensuring stakeholders have instant access to the latest Reports within the platforms already integrated into their daily operations.

Tighter Template Controls for Data Governance

We’ve added a new capability called Template Input Presets, giving Member Plus Users the ability to customize and lock input parameters without opening the full editor.

Admins can ensure that Users run Reports with the right parameters—every time—while protecting sensitive filters or inputs from being modified or even seen. It’s another step toward governed self-service, where teams move fast without compromising accuracy or control.

What’s Next?

The Informer 2025.2 release reflects our ongoing investment in performance, automation, and intelligent access. And there’s more coming — features that push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI, cloud collaboration, and governed analytics.

Whether you're in education, insurance, or any data-driven industry, Informer is designed to scale with you.

Stay tuned for the official launch and thank you for growing with us.

Entrinsik Powers California Lutheran University’s New “Ask Gumby” Campus-Wide AI Assistant, Revolutionizing Student Experience

Powered by Informer AI, “Ask Gumby” marks a paradigm shift in how higher education institutions deliver student support and engagement

RALEIGH, N.C., April 10, 2025 – Entrinsik, a leader in business intelligence and data analytics solutions, has announced the launch of "Ask Gumby" at California Lutheran University (CLU), a cutting-edge AI assistant that is redefining how institutions support students and faculty across campus. Built on Entrinsik's powerful Informer AI platform, “Ask Gumby” delivers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, intelligent, personalized answers to academic and administrative questions directly within the university's MyCLU App/Portal.

The phase one rollout launches Friday, April 11, as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of CLU’s Pearson Library—a symbolic moment uniting tradition with innovation. A full campus-wide deployment is scheduled for fall 2025.

“At Entrinsik, we're committed to developing solutions that transform how institutions leverage their data to enhance student success, and we’ve been proud to be associated with the Cal Lutheran team and able to provide them the data backbone upon which they build all of their amazing campus-wide solutions," said Brad Leupen, chief executive officer of Entrinsik. "This initiative sets a new standard for student expectations and AI literacy in higher education. Students are already integrating AI into their experiences, and Entrinsik is committed to ensuring that these advanced solutions are accessible and deployable today, not just a promise for tomorrow.”

The groundbreaking AI assistant, which was first revealed at Ellucian Live 2025, represents a significant advancement in Entrinsik's higher education solutions portfolio. Seamlessly integrated into CLU's existing “MyCLU” App/Portal, “Ask Gumby” leverages Entrinsik's powerful Informer and Informer AI technology to provide immediate, contextually relevant answers to student and faculty inquiries across academic and administrative domains.

“At Cal Lutheran, our AI journey started by articulating a vision for what a proper Higher Ed AI solution needed to be,” said Justin Barkhuff, director of enterprise applications, California Lutheran University. “Entrinsik quickly stood out as the only real path forward, and they've been the perfect partner. We couldn’t have done it without them, and the results speak for themselves. In a world where Higher Ed is being upended by AI, Cal Lutheran and Entrinsik have created a model for others to follow. We expect significant, measurable impacts on operational effectiveness, enrollment, retention, student support, and learning outcomes.”

The platform's sophisticated AI engine, built on Entrinsik's data analytics engine, allows it to understand context, learn from interactions, and deliver increasingly accurate, relevant support. Students can now ask about anything from course requirements to financial aid, class schedules, academic policies, or even the wait time at Starbucks — receiving immediate, trusted answers based on real-time institutional data.

“By integrating AI into business intelligence, we've provided educational institutions like CLU with a powerful tool to transform how they utilize their data. This innovation supports students throughout their academic journeys by delivering timely and accurate information, fostering a more integrated, less fragmented experience. The framework that CLU has, not only gives students a level of support that has been unachievable to this point but also allows for proactive communication back to the student, and that's huge," said Madhavi W. Chandra, chief product officer at Entrinsik.

By analyzing patterns in student inquiries, the Entrinsik-powered solution can proactively address common challenges before they become barriers to academic progress, creating an unprecedented level of support for the entire campus community.

“Entrinsik has proven to be more than just a vendor — they operate as a true extension of our Cal Lutheran ITS team,” said Zareh Marselian, chief information officer at California Lutheran University. “We've worked with many technology partners, but few deliver with the same level of responsiveness and commitment. Ask Gumby represents the realization of a vision we’ve held for years which is to provide our campus with intuitive, intelligent, and governed technology that truly supports our mission. This is about more than just access to information; it’s about delivering answers that are secure, accurate, and grounded in institutional truth.”

Following Friday’s launch, Entrinsik and Cal Lutheran will continue piloting and enhancing advanced capabilities within “Ask Gumby”, including student tutors and instructor assistants, as they prepare for full deployment in fall 2025. This initiative showcases what’s possible when AI is implemented strategically and responsibly in higher ed, setting a precedent for innovation, partnership, and long-term impact.

Informer 5.10: Improving Data Access and Transparency

Entrinsik’s commitment to your organization’s data accessibility and security continues with the release of Informer 5.10, the latest version of our data analytics, visualization, and reporting software.  This release also boosts Informer AI Assistants, allowing users to get more out of their data using artificial intelligence.

Improved data accessibility and security

Data accessibility – both inside your organization and to external stakeholders and customers – is critical in today's business environment.

When your data is accessible, your employees will make educated decisions and react quickly to market changes. They also will spend less time searching for and wrangling data and more time on efforts that impact the bottom line. More accessible data increases efficiency, which translates to reduced operating costs.

Of course, securing your data also minimizes risks related to unauthorized disclosure or manipulation. And it protects your organization’s reputation, building the trust and confidence of your customers.

So, how does Informer 5.10 enhance data accessibility and security?

  • It introduces Integrations, a new way for users to connect from Informer to outside APIs through OAuth. This allows Informer to securely access and manage data from third-party software, such as Salesforce, QuickBooks, Jira, or Zendesk. From Informer, users will only have access to data within third-party applications that they would natively.
  • It enables users with MFA enabled to migrate from an on-prem instance to Informer cloud, ensuring uninterrupted security during the transition.

Upping our AI Game

Informer 5.10 also continues Entrinsik’s foray into AI, with significant improvements to AI Assistants. Here’s how:

  • By using Integrations with AI Assistants, users can securely interact with their data in third-party applications while leveraging the power of Assistants. Informer becomes the central hub for interacting with organizational data across applications!
  • Through AI Assistant Switcher, users can interact with different AI Assistants in the same interface. This tool models how we communicate. It allows users to effortlessly switch between different AI Assistants, each tailored for specific tasks or functions.
  • Users can save their AI Assistant instructions and apply them across different Assistants, saving time and effort. By storing commonly used instructions, users can deploy these commands and automatically create a new AI Assistant.

Our Journey in Elevating Informer with AI

As Entrinsik’s Chief Product Officer, I’ve had the privilege of steering the development of Informer AI Assistants, an initiative sparked a year and a half ago by our CEO, Brad Leupen. This ambitious, new product uses artificial intelligence to transform how users engage with Informer, Entrinsik’s data reporting and analytics software.

By last summer, Brad and Vice President of Informer Engineering Andrea Vega led our team in developing early versions of Informer AI. We couldn’t wait to reveal it at our user conference, Entrinsicon, last September (2023).

We were elated at the enthusiasm and excitement that ensued! Customers immediately grasped how they could seamlessly use Informer AI to accelerate their work and extract insights from their data. This underscored the transformative potential of this innovation.

Our work was just beginning.

The Early phase of Informer AI

Soon after Entrinsicon, members of our Informer Advisory Council (IAC) – a customer user group - became our initial Informer AI Pilot sites. Their feedback identified key improvement areas for user interaction and for sharpening communication between the user and AI. We also gained insight into the ways customers foresee using Informer AI and the potential that lay ahead. They wanted to leverage the data inside Informer to answer targeted questions outside of Informer.

This is when the idea of Informer AI Assistants was born! We didn’t want to be just another AI chatbot. We had bigger ideas.

Informer AI Assistants lead the way

We engineered Informer AI Assistants to be intentional, loaded with specific knowledge, skilled for the objective at hand, and grounded by Informer’s adherence to Data Governance. Thus, an AI Assistant has targeted secure conversations and capabilities, which mitigates the effects of hallucinations that plague general AI. Customers can create an expert AI Assistant for every purpose!

We added more Pilot sites and began partnering with all Pilot sites to create AI Assistants for their real-world use cases. They were building AI Assistants for targeted constituents that even surpassed our ideas like an AI Assistant integrated with Microsoft Teams, Insurance Policy Comparison Assistant, Alumni Giving Assistant. just to name a few. We refined AI within Informer and carved it out as one such AI Assistant - the Informer Copilot - to reduce manual tasks, accelerate content creation, and elevate technical skills like writing JavaScript in an instant.

In all, AI Assistants empower users to fully use organizational data by simplifying complex tasks, answering user queries, and offering actionable insights. Already, our Pilot sites are using AI Assistants to not only serve up information and do analysis, but also to brainstorm and strategize. And the most exciting part? This is all impacting their bottom line in savings of time and money!

What lies ahead with Informer AI Assistants

As we continue to develop Informer AI Assistants, we envision users conversing with different AI Assistants as routinely as they do with coworkers and taking immediate action from within an AI Assistant. We see students using an Informer AI Assistant as their go-to for navigating their academic pursuits - from finding out what courses they still need to take, to helping them study for a Chemistry test. The potential we have in supporting a student’s path is particularly exciting to me as a mom!

Our journey is just beginning as we strive to empower customers to harness the power of AI to make the most informed decisions supported by robust and secure data. We are committed to learning from customer feedback and regularly enhancing our offerings. I'm genuinely excited about the impact Informer AI Assistants will have on customers' daily work and the transformative effect it will have for their organizations.

I invite you to plug an AI Assistant up to your data and ask away! See the possibilities for yourself.
