Entrinsik Named Finalist for NC Tech Awards 2025 in AI, ML + Data Innovation Category

Recognition highlights Entrinsik’s innovation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics solutions

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 16, 2025 – Entrinsik, a leader in data analytics and business intelligence solutions, has been selected as a finalist for the NC Tech Awards 2025 in the AI, ML + Data Innovation Category. The NC TECH Awards is North Carolina's only statewide technology awards program that recognizes innovation, growth and leadership in the tech sector.

“We’re honored to be named a finalist for the NC Tech Awards, and this recognition reflects the hard work put in by our team in their dedication to revolutionizing how organizations harness their data,” said Brad Leupen, chief executive officer of Entrinsik. “As a homegrown North Carolina based company, we’re equally as proud to contribute to the Triangle's reputation as a leading technology hub, while also positioning the company among North Carolina’s top technology innovators.”

Entrinsik's submission showcased California Lutheran University's campus-wide AI initiative, which transforms the entire digital experience for students, faculty, and staff. Leveraging CLU's existing Informer business intelligence infrastructure, the university deployed AI Assistants, a feature of Entrinsik's Informer platform, throughout the MyCLU portal and mobile app, with Ask Gumby serving as the unified chat interface. Ask Gumby connects securely to ERP, SIS, and LMS systems to deliver personalized, role-aware insights to more than 4,400 users across campus. The results have been transformative: a 70% reduction in financial aid follow-ups at orientation, a 75% decrease in unpaid graduation fees, and dramatic time savings as processes that once took hours now take minutes. CLU's approach, which uses Specialized Governed Assistants to maintain security and accuracy while preventing AI sprawl, earned the university the 2025 Tambellini Future Campus Award for Impact on Learning Outcomes and Experience.

“Our AI innovations, from AI Assistants that provide instant insights to Magic Visuals that turn natural language into compelling visualizations, represent a fundamental shift in making advanced analytics truly democratized,” said Madhavi Chandra, chief product & strategy officer of Entrinsik. “This finalist recognition reinforces our belief that the future of business intelligence lies in AI that's not just powerful, but governable, secure, and intuitive enough for any user to leverage.”

Winners will be announced at the NC Tech Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Raleigh Convention Center.

10 Signs Your Institution Needs a Unified Data Platform

Most organizations don't wake up one day and realize their data infrastructure is broken. The cracks show up gradually. A report that takes three weeks to build, another vendor added to solve a niche problem, teams working from different versions of the truth. If you're reading this, you probably already suspect something needs to change. Here are ten warning signs that it's time to consolidate your data platform.

The 10 Warning Signs

1. You Have Multiple Tools Doing Similar Jobs

You've got a reporting tool, a separate dashboard tool, something else for ad-hoc queries, and another platform for operational reports. Each one made sense when you bought it, but now your team spends more time figuring out which tool to use than actually analyzing data.

2. Simple Reports Take Days or Weeks

When a department head asks for a straightforward report—enrollments by program, budget variance by department—it shouldn't require a project plan. If your team is constantly backlogged with "simple" requests, your platform is the bottleneck.

3. IT Becomes a Translation Layer

Your business users know what questions they need answered, but they can't get to the data themselves. Every request goes through IT to translate business logic into technical queries. IT becomes a perpetual middleman instead of a strategic partner.

4. Different Departments Report Different Numbers

Finance says enrollment is one number. Admissions says it's another. The Registrar has a third version. Everyone is technically correct based on their data source, but nobody agrees. This isn't a data problem—it's a trust problem caused by fragmented systems.

5. You're Manually Combining Data in Spreadsheets

Your team exports data from System A, exports from System B, then spends hours in Excel using VLOOKUP to merge them. This isn't analysis—it's data janitorial work. And it's error-prone.

6. Vendor Lock-In Prevents Progress

You want to add a new data source or build a new type of report, but your current vendor says it'll require custom development, extra licensing, or "isn't supported in this version." You're paying for a platform but renting limitations.

7. Data Governance Is Impossible

You can't track who has access to what data, how definitions are applied, or where reports are being used. Security and compliance feel like a game of whack-a-mole because you have no centralized control.

8. Onboarding New Users Takes Months

New analysts or department heads need extensive training across multiple systems. By the time they're productive, they're either frustrated or have learned workarounds that create more data silos.

9. You're Paying Multiple Vendors for Incomplete Solutions

Your BI budget is spread across 4-6 different vendors. None of them talk to each other well. You're paying for redundant capabilities and integration headaches but still don't have a complete solution.

10. Nobody Trusts the Data Enough to Make Big Decisions

This is the ultimate warning sign. When leadership needs to make strategic decisions, they ask for audits, manual verification, or "can you double-check this?" The data platform should build confidence, not erode it.

Self-Assessment Checklist

Before you talk to vendors (including your current one), get clear on where you actually stand:

Data Access & Usability

  •  Can non-technical users build their own reports without IT help?
  •  Do reports pull from a single source of truth?
  •  Can users explore data interactively without pre-built reports?
  •  Is your average time-to-report measured in hours, not days?

Integration & Architecture

  •  Can you connect to all your critical data sources without custom coding?
  •  Do your systems share consistent definitions and business rules?
  •  Can you add new data sources without a vendor engagement?
  •  Do you have a clear data lineage for audit purposes?

Team Productivity

  •  Does your BI team spend more time building new insights than maintaining existing reports?
  •  Can departments answer their own questions without waiting in a queue?
  •  Do you have time to focus on predictive analytics, not just historical reporting?

Cost & Value

  •  Do you know your total cost of BI across all tools and vendors?
  •  Are you getting measurable ROI from your BI investments?
  •  Can you scale without proportional cost increases?

Governance & Security

  •  Can you control data access at a granular level?
  •  Do you have audit trails for compliance requirements?
  •  Are business definitions documented and consistently applied?

If you checked fewer than 75% of these boxes, you're likely dealing with a fragmented data environment that's holding your organization back.

Questions to Ask Your Current BI Vendor

Whether you're evaluating a new platform or assessing your current one, these questions cut through the sales pitch:

Architecture & Integration

  • How many of our data sources can you connect to natively, without custom development?
  • What happens when we need to add a new data source you don't currently support?
  • Do we need separate products for reporting, dashboards, and data prep—or is it unified?
  • Can business users create their own data models, or does everything go through IT?

Usability

  • How long does it typically take to train a non-technical user to be self-sufficient?
  • Can users drill down into data and ask follow-up questions without building new reports?
  • What does your mobile experience look like for on-the-go access?

Total Cost

  • What's our all-in cost including licensing, maintenance, training, and required infrastructure?
  • Are there hidden costs for things like additional connectors, user seats, or data volume
  • How do costs scale as we add users or data sources?

Vendor Relationship

  • What does your support model look like? Do we get a dedicated contact or a ticket queue?
  • How often do you release updates, and what's the upgrade process?
  • Can we see your product roadmap? How much influence do customers have?
  • What's your typical customer retention rate?

Security & Compliance

  • How do you handle row-level and column-level security?
  • What compliance certifications do you maintain (SOC 2, FERPA, HIPAA, etc.)?
  • Can we keep data on-premises if required, or are we forced into the cloud?

Proof Points

  • Can you show us a reference customer similar to our institution who's had success?
  • What's your average time-to-value for implementations?
  • What's the #1 reason customers leave your platform? Pay attention not just to what they answer, but how they answer. Vague responses, deflection to "that's on the roadmap," or "we can custom-build that" are red flags.

Why Organizations Choose Informer

We're not going to tell you that Informer is the only data platform that works. But if the signs and questions above resonated with you, here's why Informer might be worth a conversation.

Built for Real Users, Not Just Data Teams

Informer was designed around a simple idea: the people who understand the business best should be able to answer their own questions. No SQL required. No waiting for IT. Business users can explore data, build reports, and create dashboards without becoming data engineers.

One Platform, Complete Capability

You're not buying separate products for data prep, reporting, dashboards, and analytics. Informer is a unified platform that handles everything from data integration to visualization. One vendor. One licensing model. One place for your team to master.

Connect to Everything

Whether your data lives in a modern SaaS platform, a legacy system, a database, or a spreadsheet, Informer connects to it. And when you need to add a new source, you're not waiting for the next release cycle or paying for custom development.

Governed by Default

Data security, user permissions, and audit trails aren't add-ons—they're built into the core Informer platform. You define business rules and definitions once, and they're consistently applied everywhere. Different departments can work independently while still operating from the same source of truth.

Built for Your World

Entrinsik, the company behind Informer, has spent years working with complex organizations in higher education, healthcare, insurance, local government, and nonprofits. We understand compliance requirements, budget constraints, and the reality of working with legacy systems that can't just be ripped out.

Access Anywhere You Work

Whether you're at your desk, in a meeting, or traveling between campuses, Informer delivers consistent functionality across all your devices. Our responsive web platform automatically adapts to your screen size, providing full functionality on laptops, tablets, and smartphones. We're also developing enhanced mobile and desktop applications that will bring even more powerful on-the-go capabilities—because we believe mobile access shouldn't mean compromised functionality.

You're Not Just a License Number

When you work with Informer, you get dedicated support, regular training, and access to a community of users facing similar challenges. We improve the platform based on real feedback from customers like you, not just what sounds good in a boardroom.

What Happens Next?

If you recognized your institution in these warning signs, the path forward is straightforward:

  • Run the self-assessment with your team to document your current state
  • Calculate your true cost of your current BI environment (include vendor costs, IT hours, opportunity cost)
  • Ask your current vendor the hard questions—their answers will tell you what you need to know
  • Talk to alternatives like Informer to understand what's possible

Your data platform should be an accelerator, not an anchor. The right unified platform pays for itself quickly, not just in reduced vendor costs, but in faster decisions, better insights, and teams that spend their time solving problems instead of fighting with tools.

If you want to see how Informer handles your specific use cases, let's talk. No pressure, no sales pitch, just a real conversation about whether we're the right fit for your institution.

Speed Wins: Making Decisions Without Bottlenecks

In today’s insurance landscape, uncertainty around data is one of the biggest bottlenecks to effective decision-making. When numbers are unclear, outdated, or locked in spreadsheets, misinterpretation follows. Leaders can’t align, employees second-guess insights, and opportunities slip through the cracks. In a business where speed matters, hesitation caused by unclear data isn’t just inconvenient, it’s costly.

The Hidden Cost of Slow Insurance Reporting

Insurance agencies process large volumes of data every day, including renewals, commissions, claims, and client activity. However, when agencies rely on outdated spreadsheets to manage that data, it slows down the entire operation. Manual entry takes hours, errors creep in, and different teams often work from conflicting versions of the same report. Instead of enabling speed, reporting delays leave leaders reacting after the fact rather than steering proactively.

The Risks of Data Bottlenecks in Insurance Agencies

When reporting lags behind the pace of the business, the consequences show up in multiple ways:

  • Missed renewal opportunities when risks aren’t flagged in time
  • Compliance exposure from inaccurate or outdated reports
  • Slower decision-making that impacts competitiveness
  • Teams wasting hours preparing data instead of serving clients
  • Security risks when sensitive client data is stored in unsecured files

Why Speed of Decision-Making Matters for Insurance Leaders

The ability to make fast, well-informed decisions defines whether agencies stay ahead or fall behind. Clients expect tailored service and quick answers. Leadership demands clarity to guide strategy. And in an industry with tight margins, delays can mean lost revenue or missed opportunities to improve retention. Over 80% of insurance agencies face slow manual processes, leading to lost revenue and customer dissatisfaction. Delayed processing alone costs the industry nearly $18.9 billion annually.

Breaking the Bottleneck: Pre-Built Dashboards for Insurance Agencies

For agencies, speed matters. The faster teams can turn data into decisions, the sooner they deliver value to clients and see measurable ROI. Pre-built dashboards put time to value at the center by transforming raw data into clear, accurate, and immediately actionable insights. Unlike spreadsheets, dashboards remove the burden of manual formatting and interpretation by presenting information that is already structured, cleaned, and visualized.

With pre-built dashboards, agencies can:

  • See insights clearly – Renewal trends, claims performance, and client retention risks are surfaced in visuals designed for instant understanding.
  • Build trust in reporting – Everyone works from the same dashboards, eliminating conflicting versions of the truth.
  • Act without delay – Teams can act on insights right away, reducing time to value and delivering immediate ROI.

Informer: Seamless Reporting and Real-Time Insights

Informer gives insurance agencies comprehensive business intelligence and data enablement tailored to their needs. "With pre-built dashboards, such as the Book of Business, Informer empowers agencies to streamline workflows and minimize risk."

One of the standout advantages of Informer is its enablement of speedy decision-making. Teams can access real-time insights the moment data updates, resulting in faster and more informed choices. At the same time, with role-level access controls agencies can ensure that sensitive information is only visible to the right people. As business needs evolve, the platform’s flexibility allows for pre-built dashboards to be customized to align with changing goals and strategies. As Tyler Lyster, VP of Operations at Seubert & Associates, Inc. said:

“Making decisions is so much quicker with Informer. I can instantly see book sizes and make informed choices about personnel. With AMS360, gathering the same insights was clunky and time-consuming, but now, everything’s easier to digest and act on.”

 The Future of Insurance Decision-Making

Agencies that move beyond spreadsheets gain more than efficiency, they gain confidence. Real-time dashboards eliminate hesitation by delivering the answers leaders need, when they need them. Instead of reacting to yesterday’s numbers, agencies can anticipate challenges, act faster, and serve clients more effectively.

In today’s competitive environment, speed wins. And with Informer, agencies can move from data to insight instantly, without bottlenecks.

Stop Waiting for Reports: Make Decisions in Real Time

Are You Leading with Data - or Waiting for It?

Think back to the last time you needed a critical report. Did it arrive the moment you needed it, guiding your decision at the right time? Or did you wait hours, days, sometimes weeks, only to find the data was outdated by the time it reached your desk?

For many insurance agencies, this is the daily reality: opportunities missed, client conversations delayed, and risks left unaddressed because the right information wasn’t available at the right moment. In an industry where speed and accuracy define success, waiting has become the hidden cost you cannot afford.

The Silent Threat of Slow Insurance Reporting

Most teams don’t see reporting delays as dramatic failures,  but the ripple effects are costly:

  • A renewal opportunity slips by because you didn’t have updated loss ratios in time.
  • Claims data trends reveal a brewing issue, but you spot it weeks too late.
  • Teams spend more time requesting, cleaning, or chasing data than serving clients.

Every delay chips away at agility, competitiveness, and client trust. The irony is that your agency often has all the right data. It’s the slowness of reporting, not the lack of information that is holding you back.

Why Speedy Reporting Matters for Every Insurance Agency Employee

This isn’t just a leadership issue. Every employee feels the weight of slow reporting:

  • CSRs waiting on renewal reports.
  • Producers waiting for client data.
  • Managers waiting on pipeline insights.

The frustration is universal.

Employees are also the drivers of change. By demanding faster, clearer, and more accessible insights, they push agencies toward a culture of quick decisions and seamless real-time reporting.

Best Practices Insurance Agencies Can Use to Shorten Time to Value (TTV)

To excel at real-time decision-making, you can’t simply adopt tools, you need to rethink how reporting and insights are delivered. Top-performing insurance agencies aren’t just lucky, they follow a set of reporting guiding principles that drive consistent success. It’s time to consider how these same strategies could transform your agency.

  1. Centralizing Data to Create One Source of Truth You Can Trust
Stop juggling multiple systems and versions of “the truth”. Agencies that thrive have a single source of data everyone trusts, backed by security that protects sensitive data, so confidence is never in question.
  2. Empowering Insurance Teams with Self-Service Data and Custom Reporting
The best agencies don’t limit data access to analysts. They give everyone—from account managers to executives—the ability to pull insights themselves, with the flexibility to rapidly build more customized reports.
  3. Driving Better Decisions with Visual Insurance Dashboards and Analytics
Numbers in rows don’t inspire action. Dashboards, visual trends, and interactive charts turn complexity into clarity, so insights aren’t just seen, they’re understood.
  4. Staying Ahead with Always-On Awareness
Instead of relying on monthly or quarterly reports, leading agencies set up real-time alerts. Issues surface the moment they happen, not after the damage is done.
  5. Achieving Fast ROI with Insurance Analytics That Deliver Value
Time to value matters. Agencies that succeed demand tools and processes that start working in weeks, not months, so momentum builds and change sticks.

How Insurance Agencies Can Eliminate Reporting Delays and Make Faster, Smarter Decisions

It is clear, if your goal is to eliminate insurance reporting delays and make faster, smarter decisions you need to stop letting outdated processes dictate your pace of business. The data you need is already there. The question is whether you’re willing to reimagine how you access, interpret, and act on it. For insurance agencies today, quick decisions aren’t a “nice-to-have,” they’re the difference between catching opportunities or watching them pass by. Don’t wait for the next report to tell you what you’ve already missed. Start building a culture where everyone has the answers they need, when they need them to drive every decision. That is where true competitive advantage begins.

Turning Data into Momentum: Elevating Insurance Agency Performance with Entrinsik

Insurance agencies aren’t just dealing with day-to-day challenges anymore; they’re navigating a fast-changing world driven by data and analytics. At Entrinsik, we believe data isn't just a resource sitting quietly in the background. It is your most powerful competitive edge. When used strategically, it gives you the answers you need, when you need them. No delays, just real-time insights.

This transformation isn't about simply upgrading tools, it's about rethinking how your agency collects, analyzes, and uses data across every part of your business. That’s where Informer, Entrinsik’s business intelligence platform, steps in.

Related topic: Importance of Big Data for Agency Insurance

From Insight to Action: How Leading Agencies Use Data

Forward-thinking agencies are moving fast and reaping the rewards. Consider Haas & Wilkerson, a well-known insurance agency that improved its operations by using advanced analytics and automating key business processes. This transformation led to:

  • Faster, data-driven executive decision-making
  • More efficient business development processes
  • Greater accuracy in underwriting through predictive insights
  • Automated and precise financial reporting

These outcomes aren’t simply the result of more effort; they’re the result of smarter data enablement. Casey Williamson, Executive at Haas and Wilkerson said, “The ability to organize our data and effortlessly build dashboards and reports is a game changer. It has taken us from idea to execution at speed. We can strike while the iron is hot, before projects get pushed aside or forgotten.” The same is possible for all agencies if they pair industry expertise with a flexible platform built for real-time intelligence.

Five Strategic Ways Agencies Use Informer to Drive Momentum

Entrinsik partners with mid-market insurance agencies that are ready to move from incremental change to bold, data-led transformation. Based on what we’ve seen work in the field, here are five key ways agencies are using Informer to gain a strategic edge:

1. Building Scalable, Data-Driven Revenue Operations
Growth today isn’t just about winning new business, it’s about building scalable and repeatable processes. Agencies using Informer are automating reporting, client communications, and business processes, eliminating manual steps and freeing up valuable time. By integrating seamlessly with your AMS and other systems, agencies are getting a consolidated view of their Book of Business (BoB), driving speed of decision-making while reducing administrative overhead.

2. Expanding Specialty Coverage with Better Risk Insights
Expanding into complex insurance products requires insight, not guesswork. With Informer’s AI-assisted reporting and flexible dashboards, agencies can assess risk more accurately, model outcomes, and tailor policies to niche markets. This level of insurance risk analytics helps agencies access higher-margin opportunities confidently.

3. Using Data to Strengthen Retention and Client Relationships
Client retention is the foundation of sustainable growth for insurance agencies. Informer empowers agencies to understand client behavior in depth, accurately predict renewal likelihood, and personalize outreach effectively. By leveraging advanced analytics to identify coverage gaps and significant life events, agencies can uncover new cross-selling opportunities and deepen client relationships across multiple lines of business. This holistic approach not only maximizes client lifetime value but also builds stronger, more loyal customer portfolios through data-driven retention strategies.

4. Flexible, Tailored Reporting
No two agencies are exactly the same. Their workflows, data challenges, and reporting needs are unique. Informer gives agencies the flexibility to rapidly build and customize reports that fit their specific processes and priorities. This agility empowers your agency to get exactly the insights you need, right when you need them, without being limited by rigid templates or IT development bottlenecks.

5. Enabling Real-Time, Cross-Team Collaboration
Enabling real-time collaboration across sales, operations, and finance is critical. When teams work from shared dashboards and consistent data sources, it strengthens security and data compliance while breaking down silos. This unified approach helps agencies respond faster, coordinate more effectively, and maintain a clear, collective understanding of performance. This keeps everyone aligned and focused on shared goals.

Why Data-Driven Decisions Matter More Than Ever

Clients expect tailored service and quick answers, and agency teams need secure, accurate, and easily accessible data to deliver on those expectations. Informer by Entrinsik gives agencies security for sensitive data, flexibility to rapidly build more customized reports, and an interface built for real people, not just data analysts.

As one of our clients put it:

The ability to move quickly from concept to execution allows us to capitalize on emerging opportunities, because we have the right data at our fingertips.

Let’s Talk About Your Data Journey

We understand that every agency is unique. That’s why we take the time to learn each agency’s goals, workflows, and challenges, then craft a tailored solution that empowers the entire team. Whether you’re rethinking your financial reporting or diving into predictive analytics, we’ll help you move with confidence.

The national award honors CLU’s university-wide deployment of AI Assistants that are powered by Entrinsik’s Informer platform as part of their broader effort to create more agile, personalized, and effective learning environments.

Selected from a competitive pool of higher education institutions, CLU’s innovative use of AI stood out for its sustainable design, measurable results, and commitment to long-term student success. The initiative was launched in strategic partnership with Entrinsik, using Informer’s AI Assistants to embed secure, governed AI directly into CLU’s campus portal and mobile app.

“California Lutheran’s bold vision and leadership exemplify how higher education can responsibly implement AI to improve outcomes at scale,” said Brad Leupen, CEO of Entrinsik. “Their innovative approach, powered by our Informer AI Assistants, sets a new standard for intuitive, governed, and impactful AI that supports student success today while building a foundation for long‑term impact.”

Informer AI Assistants integrate with CLU’s existing systems, including their enterprise resource planning system, student information system, and learning management system, and are deployed through the university’s MyCLU Digital Experience Platform. This infrastructure empowers students, faculty, and staff with real-time, personalized insights and support across academic, operational, and administrative functions.

Early implementations include 1-to-1 AI Tutors that guide students using Socratic methods, encouraging deeper engagement. AI Instructor Assistants also support faculty by analyzing AI Tutor conversations and institutional data to recommend strategies for framing content based on student interests and learning needs; enhancing instruction and building long-term institutional capacity.

“We realized AI could enable Cal Lutheran to provide an unprecedented, unparalleled level of service and support which would directly impact student success,” said Justin Barkhuff, director of enterprise applications at California Lutheran University. “We are so thankful for Entrinsik’s ongoing support to help us realize that vision, and it’s an honor to be recognized by Tambellini for that work.”

Initial results highlight the impact of CLU’s AI-powered transformation:

  • A 96% satisfaction rating for MyCLU in campus-wide surveys
  • 70% reduction in Financial Aid follow-up issues at orientation
  • 75% decrease in unpaid graduation fees after launching a digital checklist

The Tambellini Group recognized CLU’s initiative for not only improving student experience and outcomes today but for laying a sustainable foundation for the future. The model offers a scalable blueprint for institutions seeking to unify fragmented systems, reduce operational strain, and enhance learning through ethical AI.

“This project is about more than introducing new technology. It is about removing barriers for our students and faculty so they can focus on learning, teaching, and collaboration,” said Zareh Marselian, CIO at California Lutheran University. “By integrating Informer AI Assistants into our Digital Experience Platform, we are creating a consistent, personalized experience that helps every member of our campus community get what they need, when they need it. This recognition from Tambellini reflects the progress we have made and our commitment to continuing that work.”
